Evan Cann has decided to take on ukpoppyberry's
Lonely Island Land Lubber's Challenge, which can be downloaded
HERE.
This is the second of the challenges listed. Evan will have to stay on this lonely island for at least a full year of SUMMERS ONLY!!! He will not be able to eat anything he hasn't caught or grown himself, and for the original version of the challenge, he won't be able to improve on his "house." Check it out at the above link (you make your own Sim). :-) |

I'm using a desert roads override mod from MTS2 to make the challenges I do LOOK even harder (it doesn't really affect them one way or another). Lonely Island, as far as Evan Cann is concerned, is now a deserted, desert island!
Evan has clicked right into his role, and has begun fishing right away. Unfortunately, it's started to rain, even though it's summer all year in this challenge. Evan needs to plant something right away, to take advantage of the rain! |

Unfortunately, by the time Evan got the fertilizing done, the rare summer rain had stopped! |

So, knowing that he'd be pretty hungry by nightfall, Evan went back to the riverbank to try again for some fish for dinner. |

Yessss!!!
He caught...an old boot! Oh no! Well...if all else fails in the next couple of hours, at least that old leather will provide some sustenance (gag). |
 page 6
[view] |
Fortunately, Evan has just caught his second (small) fish of the day. Dinner (for today at least) is assured!
When Evan started to eat his dinner, he realized he would need some more cash to buy seeds to plant in his now-fertilized garden plot, so he sold off the boot and the small catfish, for a total of $64. Since tomato seeds only cost $8 for each plant, he should have plenty to get that garden going soon.
After figuring that out, he grilled a nice bass and squash dinner, and sat down to eat. |

He was just finishing up, when Shannon Bul walked by--the first humanoid he'd seen since moving to Lonely Island! Evan rushed out to greet Shannon and get in some social contact. He knew he'd be hurting for more of that before his self-imposed year was done! |
 page 8
[view] |
While Shannon went up to the little loft to check it out, Evan began to plant his tomato seeds. It had again rained for a short period of time. Hopefully it would do that again after the seeds got planted, so that Evan could get some much-needed rest instead of spending all night watering his new plants! |
 page 9

After the seeds were all planted, Evan joined Shannon on the riverbank, and the two companionably fished for a while. |

I'm SURE I heard Evan shout, "Ah ha
HA! Not the BOOT!" when he caught this good-sized fish! |
 page 11
[view] |
Since there would be fish for breakfast (or brunch, which would be more practical), Evan focused on getting Shannon to just talk to him for a while. Shannon wanted to know how Evan GOT to the island.
BTW--I FINALLY figured out why the
"Grill..." command isn't always available, even when there are plenty of
fish in a Sim's inventory. Sims DON'T grill their BREAKFASTS!!! The
"Grill..." command will ONLY be available from noon to midnight! |
 page 12
[view] |
"Yeah...I took a plane to get here," Evan agreed with Shannon. "Can't use any modern conveniences now, though...it's against the rules!" This puzzled Shannon a bit, but he was too polite to ask Evan just what he meant by that cryptic comment. |
 page 13
[view] |
Before Shannon had to leave, the two just hung out together for a while. This was very good for Evan's well-being. |

Having visited "the facilities," Evan climbs the stairs and quickly cleans up his mess from dinner, knowing that he'll sleep better because his environment is more friendly. |
 page 15

Oh no! This is something Evan hadn't counted on! He had befriended a stray cat earlier, and this is how the animal repaid him! Evan's trash can is completely in tatters! It's a good thing there's the big bin downstairs. Hmmm...you know...it might be worth it just to lug that thing right up here! |
 page 16
[view] |
Well...tomorrow will be soon enough to
remedy that problem. |
 page 17
[view] |
First thing in the morning, right after making his bed (Evan is VERY neat), he lugged the the big galvanized can up to the loft, since most of his use of the trash bin would be right there, anyway. |
 page 18
[view] |
Then he began to clean up the kitchen unnecessarily, since he couldn't yet fix a meal containing fish! |
 page 19
[view] |
While the sun was still low in the sky, and while he was still in his PJs, Evan ran down and did some fishing in the shade of the loft. Pretty soon he'd check on the tomatoes. |

Aahhh!!! Evan takes a much-needed food and shade break during the early afternoon. You'd think bass and squash would have lost a bit of their appeal already, but not for Evan! |
 page 23
[view] |
Evan's eating his "blackened" bass (oops!), but it's a good reminder that he needs to get his cooking skills built up a bit, since there's no fire alarm in this place! |
 page 24
[view] |
After studying for a while to good
(cooking) advantage, Evan gets out his diary and starts to remember about the people he knows, which perks him up considerably, not having seen anyone in person the whole day! |

The heat of the summer really hits during the night, and Evan has to get up and drink several glasses of water to cool himself down.
I'm SO glad this challenge lot has a
SINK!!! |
 page 26
[view] |
Feeling lonely, he also spends a bit more time writing in his diary, until the darned sink (which is totally necessary to him) springs a leak and has to be repaired! |
 page 27
[view] |
Once the sink is fixed and the mess is cleaned up, Evan decides to try to catch a few winks in the early morning hours.
This is when he discovers that it's actually COOLER to sleep then, than it
is in the middle of the night! |
 page 28
[view] |
While the sun is still fairly low in the sky, he's up tending and watering his tomato plants, though. Can't let them die! The fish seem mighty
scarce, and it doesn't look as though the fruit trees are going to yield
very much produce very quickly, either, so he may need the vegies for food,
just as soon as possible! |
 page 29
[view] |
After using the bathroom facilities, Evan gets a few more drinks of water, before finally giving in and grilling the last of his catfish. The water serves not only to cool him down, but it also takes the edge off his
hunger... |
 page 30
[view] |
...which is good, because before he can get the grill started, he spots Stephanie Farmer down in the dusty street! |

Running down, he greets her and begins to make friends with her. He's DESPERATE for friendship by now! |

Well, geez...FINALLY...the Social Bunny
SHOULD have showed up a WHOLE long time before this! By the time he drops in, Evan and Steph have begun a water balloon fight--a good way to get to know each other, and keep cool at the same time. |
 page 33
[view] |
They go running across the bridge, leaving the bunny hopping along behind, feeling left out! Should have gotten there earlier, stupid bunny! |

Evan and Steph are having a great time at their play... |

...when suddenly Evan sees the bunny and goes into paroxysms of laughter! |
 page 36
[view] |
Suddenly he remembers he was going to grill that catfish, so he goes running upstairs and begins. Stephanie stays downstairs to use the facilities, but the bunny follows. Evan lays out plates for two.
The Bunny doesn't seem like he's doing anything to help, but Evan's social
score is rising by the second. |
 page 37
[view] |
Then he calls Stephanie. "Steph! Come on up and have some blackened catfish!" |
 page 38
[view] |
Thinking that Evan was inviting HIM to the meal as well, the bunny grabs a plate and sits down to eat, which leaves no place for Steph to sit! |
 page 39
[view] |
That doesn't bother her. She just grabs her plate, digs in, and becomes part of the conversation group.
Shortly after this, the bunny decides he's served his purpose, and ascends
to his home in the sky. |

Show off! Evan doesn't even has his bronze fishing badge yet. Not realizing that Steph has her gold badge
already, he tries to show her "how it's done." SHE catches a fish, and he just falls all over himself! Oops!
How embarrassing! |
 page 41
[view] |
Steph catches about five fish while Evan doesn't even get a hit! Oh dear! What's going to be for dinner tomorrow?
Unfortunately, there's no way (that I know of) to get Steph to give HIM a
gift! Wonder why the game creators didn't think of THAT scenario! |
 page 42
[view] |
Leaving Steph to her fishing, Evan gives it up and heads upstairs to get some sleep. |
 page 43
[view] |
A couple of hours later, Stephanie is still fishing (and catching), but Evan wakes up grouchy and thirsty. He grabs a couple of quick drinks of water, cleans up the mess from dinner, and finally gets back to bed in the early morning hours... |
 page 44
[view] |
...while Steph still continues to fish! |
 page 45
[view] |
After a
day or so, Evan gets the hang of things and learns to use his physical resources carefully, to fish in the shade, drink a lot of water, tend his plants carefully, and finally to harvest them, which gives him something more to eat and drink. |
 page 46
[view] |
He also carefully watches the road for anyone passing by. Here he spends some time hanging out (in the shade) with Stephanie Farmer,
who has become quite a regular visitor. Notice that he has moved his NEW garden plot out of the direct sun, as well.
He's halfway through the second summer season. |
 page 47
[view] |
Oh, yeah! One more thing! He also sold the stupid, pesky fruit trees! He made nearly $1000 for the two diseased trees that gave him nothing but trouble, kept him up
into the wee hours of the nights, spraying and tending them, with no harvest
(do they need a fall season?)! Also, that money gave him enough to buy more seeds for planting tomatoes and strawberries in the new shady area. |
 page 48
[view] |
Even with a bronze fishing badge, Evan still occasionally catches a boot. He has learned to keep the boots, just in case.
Their food value is equivalently much higher than their resale value! |
 page 49
[view] |
The more Evan has gotten acclimatized and organized, the
chubbier he's gotten as well. He's thinking of buying a radio with some of the money he has left, which isn't as much as it was, because he was too lazy to repair his shower a couple of nights ago, and just bought a new one. |
 page 50
[view] |
Aha!
Instead of buying the radio, Evan discovered that one way to get other Sims to gladly stop to socialize for a while, is
owning a dartboard. The other thing that really comes in handy ,is a small swimming pool. Perhaps in time, Evan will
be able to increase the size of that pool...maybe after he harvests his next
crops. |
 page 51
[view] |
With the dartboard in place, Evan is probably never going to lack personal contact again! |
 page 52
[view] |
Sure enough. The dartboard is a good draw, and Stephanie shows up early the next day (well...about noon), in time for
a bass brunch. |
 page 53
[view] |
Yup...love that dartboard! |
 page 54

Wow! It hailed in the middle of the summer...it was cold enough that the tiny swimming pool steamed! |
 page 55
[view] |
Evan isn't yet halfway through his four-summer year, and he has just obtained his silver gardening badge, plus he got his silver fishing badge just a day ago. |
 page 56
[view] |
Woohoo! That stinkbait really works!
These days Evan is catching fish like crazy! |

 page 57

Wow! Two social contacts at once!!! |
 page 58
[view] |
Stephanie and Evan are getting to know each other quite well. In fact, a romance is in the works. It's true, Steph is a little older, but...they've been through the same type of things in their
(challenging) lives. They'd probably do well together as a couple! |

Having a good friend--especially a NEAT one, is really nice! |
 page 61
[view] |
As tiny as that pool is, it
even works for getting Evan back into shape. An added benefit is that it
cools him off quite quickly! During the day, the pool is in the shade of the palm tree, so it works, even then. At night, when the bed covers get too hot, just a short dip works wonders! |
 page 62
[view] |
Yup...after some midnight swimming and a good
early morning's sleep, Evan is again fit as a fiddle...a little warm because summer is still upon him, but a couple drinks of water take care of that, and he's ready to face the day. |
 page 63

Finally! Evan has seen Caryl Roennigke pass by several times, but has never been able to catch up with her. After chatting for a bit, he starts a water balloon fight. |
 page 64

They were having a lot of fun, but suddenly Stephanie appeared. Immediately, Evan stopped the water fight to go and greet Stephanie. Aaaawwww! |

Such loving greetings, hugs, and kisses! |
 page 66
[view] |

I think it won't be long until Evan can convince Stephanie to move in with him. Maybe then she can make use of his pool to get HERSELF back in shape!
NOTE: Obviously, this is where I made the
conscious decision to "hang" the challenge! :-) |
 page 67
[view] |
There's definitely some chemistry going on here. |
 page 68
[view] |
Mmmm...mmmm...MMMM! Stephanie has been convinced, and she moved in, bringing over $12,000 with her. I guess that old dusty lot where she was staying has now been abandoned! |
 page 69
[view] |
Oh no! Stephanie has put the pool to good use, but Evan used his time to spray his precious plants...one time too many!!! Even in his new guise, he's headed downstairs to sneak up on Caryl with a water balloon, while Steph heads for the kitchen to fix dinner. |
 page 70
[view] |
It'll be stuffed rainbow trout this time!
Obviously Steph has a greater array of skills and experience than Evan. What
a great partner she's going to be (even if the challenge IS officially
over)! |
 page 71
[view] |
Oh! All Evan needs NOW is sunlight, love, and water! I think he can do this
(UNofficial challenge, now)...with Steph's help, of course! |
 page 72
[view] |
Evan tended the plants again earlier in the day, but now he needs sunlight. Steph bought two lounge chairs and placed one in the shade for herself, and one in the sunshine for Evan. Then she went up to the loft to get some water to drink. She intends to put in a water supply in the yard, soon! |
 page 73
[view] |
Ah! Now there's a handy sink down by the garden... |
 page 74
[view] |
...and the swimming pool has been lengthened with a diving board added. Another palm tree added a little more shade, which meant moving Evan's chair a bit more, but now all is arranged for their mutual benefit. |
 page 75
[view] |
Though he needs to get back into the sunlight soon, Evan takes a bit of time to talk to a sickly plant and spray the others. |
 page 76
[view] |
What a nice guy Evan is! He no longer needs to eat, but he still fishes, to make sure Stephanie gets enough to eat! It will be a while until the sun comes out again, but he can also take care of his needs for both love and water, while the moon shines! |
 page 77

Steph slept for a while, but woke up hot and cranky. After a dip in the pool with Evan, they decided to relax on the bed. What a couple they make! |

Now this is really true love, wouldn't you say? |

A little lovin' to help pass the time until the sun comes out!!! |
 page 83
[view] |
Whew! That sun came out just a LITTLE bit late
for Evan's needs. Will it be soon enough? Steph isn't sure quite how this
works! |
 page 84
[view] |
Yup...even with the rain pouring down, the sun is enough to revive Evan. |
 page 85

Gathering what sunlight he can, Evan sits in his special chair, which Stephanie takes time out to rest while the air is cooler. |

Aaaawwww! Harvesting their crops together! What a great team! |
 page 87
[view] |
A routine is being established. During the day, Evan gets all the sun he can, and helps with the plants. At night he can do all sorts of things, but he MUST have his love! Steph is only too happy to oblige! It's just too bad she's too old to have little plant children for Evan! (sigh) |
 page 88
[view] |
Evan fell asleep at the bottom of the stairs about 6:30 AM. When the sun comes up, he's in the shade. Somehow he needs to figure out where to be at what time, to get all the sunlight he needs, to make it ALL the way through the night! |
 page 89
[view] |
By the time the heat of the day has arrived, Evan has caught a BUNCH more fish (standing out in the lovely sunshine), and he's now getting a nice dip in the pool, while Stephanie has doubled the garden size, fertilized it, and planted it (no strawberries or tomatoes this time). Now she's eating some stuffed trout. |
 page 90

Then it's time for another little love break! |
 page 91
[view] |
After Stephanie went to bed to sleep, Evan discovered that watering the garden satisfied his water need. That was good to know! It didn't take long, though, and he had to wake Stephanie to satisfy more of his love needs. How long can this go on? It's probably a good thing that it's the last summer quarter of this year!!! |
 page 92

A bit hungry after their last little tryst, Stephanie decides to see what can be done huge supply of tomatoes with which Evan stocked the fridge after harvesting them. Sure enough, Even cereal can be made healthy and "natural" when you add a little tomato paste! |

OK, then! Strawberry juice, at least, also satisfies Evan's need for water! |

Evan makes yet another discovery. Talking to the plants satisfies his need for love, and helps the plants flourish as well. This ought to give Stephanie a break in more than one way! |

Though Evan really doesn't need to eat, sharing a meal with Steph helps fill his need for love, and her need for companionship. |

Knowing that this special year is almost over, and head over heels in love with Stephanie, Evan brings their engagement to a close by proposing marriage. It's a quiet, lovely ceremony. He produces a ring and puts it on Steph's hand. |

things turned out for him and Stephanie. |
